PROCESS

This project included two segments—the milling and resurfacing of SR 429 as well as a new alignment to extend Vick Road to SR 429/SR 451.

The milling and resurfacing limits spanned from CR 535/Winter Garden-Vineland Road to US 441. Protean Design Group was responsible for shoulder widening, associated ramps, temporary traffic control plans (TTCP), utility coordination, lighting, signalization, signing and pavement markings, drainage, and permitting tasks. The project was completed under an expedited 6-month schedule due to the rapidly degrading pavement condition.

The second phase of the project was to connect SR 429/SR 451 to Vick Road in Apopka, FL. Protean Design Group led the improvements to realign and extend Vick Road to provide a direct connection between Vick Road and SR 429/SR 451 at US 441. Old Dixie Highway was also widened to accommodate turn lanes and bicycle facilities. Other project tasks included the design and permitting of two stormwater ponds, intelligent transportation systems (ITS) improvements, signal design and modifications, public involvement, and utility coordination.
