Who We're Looking For
We are hiring 3-4 project engineer interns (EI) who have graduated within the last 4 years and are currently working in transportation design. Experience in either highway or traffic design is welcome. Extra consideration will be giving to candidates with 3D modeling skills, ITS or drainage experience as well as those who have already worked with ORD.

Our Corporate offices are in downtown Orlando, FL, but this position can also be based in our Tallahassee or Punta Gorda offices.
We look for natural problem solvers who are curious, enthusiastic and willing to learn.

What You'll Be Doing
In a nutshell, you will be working closely with Project Managers and task leaders to design and create plan sets for our client projects. You will be learning from experienced project managers to hone your design skills and build on your education as you prepare to take the PE. You'll have a strong team of designers, engineers and project managers to support your projects and your career.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
  • License: Engineering Intern (EI) or registered to take the FE exam
  • OpenRoads Designer (ORD) experience is a plus (not required)
  • 3-D Modeling skills is a plus (not required)
  • Drainage experience is a plus (not required)

We provide this additional insurance benefit that will pay out one times the employee's annual salary to beneficiaries in addition to any life insurance claims in the event of an accident. All employee premiums are 100% paid by Protean. Employees may also opt for additional AD&D coverage at low group rates.

Disability Insurances

We offer both short-term and long-term disability benefits to our employees to support them if they cannot work due to an illness or injury and even longer if they are not able to return to work due to a disability. This includes paid time for maternity leave. All employee premiums are 100% paid by Protean.

Flexible Spending Accounts

We offer both a healthcare flexible spending account and a dependent care flexible spending account to give employees the ability to pay for these eligible expenses with pre-tax money to help them save money.

Voluntary Benefit Plans

Principal provides a variety of benefit plans that provide supplemental coverage to help with unexpected expenses due to an illness or accident. These plans are different from health insurance, which pays for medical bills. These plans pay cash benefits directly to the policyholder to use as they wish if they are hurt, or ill or hospitalized.

401(k) Retirement Plan with Company Match

Our 401(k) plan provides a managed investment tool to help employees reach their retirement goals through both pre-tax and after-tax (Roth) payroll contributions which are then amplified by Protean's employee match contributions to employee accounts. Protean employees are 100% vested in our 401(k) from the start which means all company contributions belong to the employee - always.

Half-Day Fridays

Many of our employees like to get their weekends started early so they participate in our Half-day Friday program by working four 9-hour days Monday - Thursday so they can sign off at noon on Fridays.

Flexible Work Schedules - Hybrid Option

We encourage all employees to work with their supervisor to create a schedule that works for their work life and their home life. Many of our employees work a hybrid schedule mixing work-from-home with in-office days.

PE Test Fee + Prep-course

Protean reimburses 100% of the testing fee for all EIs who are sitting for the PE for the first time. In addition, we give them a paid day off on exam day. We will also reimburse employees up to $500 toward a PE prep-course to help ensure they will only have to take it once.

PE Pay Raise

All Engineer Interns (EIs) who pass the PE exam for the first time will receive a $5,000 pay raise when their license is awarded.

Professional License Renewals & Memberships

Protean reimburses the full cost of their required PE licensing renewals every two years including continuing education fees. We will also pay the membership fees for us to two professional groups where employees choose engaged members.

Employees are provided convenient and company paid/provided parking at all our office locations across the state.

Mentor Program

We encourage all EIs to join the Protean Mentorship Program to get paired up with an experience engineer who can help answer questions and guide your career and ou work toward licensure.
